In a quest for sending video over ethernet on OSX I tried to mash together the examples for jit.net.send and jit.net.recv and jit.gl.syphonclient without final success.
Since Max 6 seems to have some problems with the plugin (which I could reproduce), I downloaded Max 5. I managed to get the Syphon receiver working (with named context) and was also able to send the example video from the help example over the net. But when I try to connect jit.gl.syphonclient to jit.net.send the matrix is not beeing transferred. I’m rather a n00b with MaxMSP. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. -jslhttps://trash.ctdo.de/b/056ncfdp577/netsyphon-sender.maxpat

November 4, 2012 at 1:43 pm #6668vadeKeymasterWhat problems do you have in Max 6 with jit.gl.syphon besides some console messages?
November 4, 2012 at 2:04 pm #6669jsilenceParticipantThe same problem as it is described in this thread: http://v002.info/forums/topic/unstable-syphon-client-in-max/
The Syphon client works when copy-pasted from the help example, but after a while of connecting and disconnecting and fiddling around the Simple Syphon Server stream is not shown in the patch any more. Restart of Max 6 helps.
And the same error messages as described in that thread as well.Vade, do you think it is difficult to program a native Cocoa application for sending Video over the network using the Syphon SDK? My programming skills are far away from beeing able to do that, but I’d be willing to contribute $ to a programming bounty for an Open Source implementation of NetSyphon.
Apart from that any hint on how to send video from one machine to another via a cable would be highly appreciated. I found this: http://www.udart.dk/2009/07/30/the-5-video-mixer-how-to-do-a-dv-screen-cast-through-firewire/
But there the sending window can not be hidden, rendering the screen unusable for using the sender machine for other stuff.Best regards and thanks for all the wonderful stuff you are providing!
It is highly appreciated!November 4, 2012 at 2:47 pm #6670vadeKeymasterCan you please give us a crashlog of Max, so we can see if Syphon is in fact the culprit?
November 4, 2012 at 2:48 pm #6671vadeKeymasterAlso, native network support in Syphon is something in the works. We have one solution working internally, and are looking for some other possibilities. Time, not money, is the issue here.
November 4, 2012 at 3:23 pm #6673jsilenceParticipantWell, Max does not crash. It simply does not show the Syphon content any more. All I could find in the logs is here: https://trash.ctdo.de/a/067fpnoi632 HTH.
I think at 18:53:18 I switched from Max 6 to Max 5.
“Also, native network support in Syphon is something in the works.”
Sweet! Good news. I’ll wait.
