Looking at building a hackintosh for the purposes of VDMX, Quartz, syphon etc using v002 plugs fairly heavily and was wondering if anyone had any card suggestions that would perform well for this purpose? Maybe even some good resources for comparing/testing cards for opengl performance?gpu, vdmx, opengl

    this looks cool: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004IF6I1S/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=tonymacx86com-20

afaik it ‘just works’ on a hackintosh, havent tried it tho.

Yeah that’s what they say, it seems difficult to get benchmarks for this type of work rather than gaming. Cuda would be great though if an nvidia worked well

Cuda wont matter for any of the VJ apps you use. Really. CUDA is just a driver add on for a programming language similar to OpenCL.

What you want is high number of cores, high vram and high bandwidth.

There are better cards than the one Brian sent, like the new NV 570/580 line, which has a shit ton of VRAM:

Read that. All that said, if you are building a Hackintosh, I really can’t be of much help if problems arise.

Thanks for the tip vade, I was originally looking at 460’s cos there seemed to be a fair few success stories but I’ll keep an eye on the 500’s. I was referring to cuda for editing purposes.

Sorry to rehash this topic but are these really the only cards you can install in a mac pro that are “kosher”? I’ve never owned a mac tower before but I thought part of the benefit would be updateability while this seems so limited. If so, what are people’s pick of the bunch for each model?
