It would be amazing to have one of the following implementations,
I would do it by myself if I knew how to do:

A way of recording Syphon output to quicktime
or a custom software able to record Syphon output

PS: Congrats by the project, its neat, very useful!

We have released a beta of a realtime Quicktime Recording app called “Syphon Recorder”, you can download the latest preview of it here:

And follow the existing thread you may have missed:

Additionally, if you have, or want commercial software support, Boinx TV just released a small article discussing implementing Syphon in Boinx TV here:

    http://www.boinx.com/chronicles/2011/3/30/record-your-own-vj-session-with-boinxtv/

Hopefully one of the solutions suits your needs.

    Hey Vade thank you
this is a beautiful software and very useful.
Tiny suggestion: it would be nice if the software could recognize syphon dimensions and used this as default for recording (1:1 scale)
Of course this can be achieved in custom dimensions too.

    Hey Vade

So cool to have a recorder, it seems to work quite well. One feature i could use is recording audio from the mac itself. Often i sit building stuff in vdmx, listening to the tracks im gonna play to on the same machine. Would be much easier to go the direct route and not have to use the: minijack splitter- and minijack out and in again..

    Thanks!

    Best

I *think* if you install Soundflower/Jack or one of those Audio Drivers that let you send audio dynamically through the system, you can get more controls (and maybe even get a specific application).

Try it out, let us know.

Yea, soundflower is designed for exactly this http://code.google.com/p/soundflower/

I’ve been using the recorder to record my latest gig, it worked really well. Now i want more:-)

I want to be able to record more than one syphon stream at a time. As it is now i cannot figure how to launch more than one instance of the recorder.
I work using a lot of cameras, coming in as a live input stream to vdmx(due to some bugs n the live input in vdmx I actually use a quarts->syphon stream). It would be great if i could at once record my main output, and the incoming camera signals..

Is it this planned, dreams or just me demanding to much? 🙂

Syphon is soo coll. once more thanks!

    Hey hi

For the near future it’s going to be limited to one stream, chiefly for performance reasons. We will look at allowing multiple streams for after we do a 1.0 release.

    Hi Lau,

If you *really* want to record > 1 streams, just duplicate the application and run more than one instance. Hope you have a decent disk 🙂

Hi vade, super ok trick.. 🙂

Actually i’m on a super slow disk, fw dropping to 400 because of dv capture, no expresscard, and thunderbolt around the corner The streams arent that high definition anyways, worked fine for 1600×400 to aic writing to a FW drive.. so figure a single sd res stream extra would be ok..

    Hey again

I have used the recorder for taping some shows now, it works really well. Thanks again. I have also used it to do preproduction, setting my stuff up in vdmx, recording to animation (or..) in syphon recorder, putting it all back in vdmx, at a different layout, recording again etc.

This have led me to want two features:
Midi/osc assignable record/stop record /snapshot buttons: – when in a show pressing the record button requires me to locate my syphon recorder window, and then pressing the record button, which which resices the window, and i need to find the button to stop it. Not much of a hazzle, but if/when my vdmx b8 crashes during a show i need to restart vdmx, and i need to both stop my recording and start it again when vdmx is up and running. So it would be faster and more efficien to have midi.

Another feature i could like was presets for recording codecs and resolutions. This is especially good to have in preproduction use where i sometimes change the resolution a lot, from square to 4:1 format, animation to aic, from alpha to no alpha etc..

Im really thrilled about the app and the framework. I even used the syphon route into vdmx because of glitches in the built in videoinput in vdmx b8 is strangely glitchy in my setup, which was solved by a small quartz syphon video input composition running in the background.

..its working out here, and its good. thanks!!

See the Help menu. There are global keyboard shortcuts which work from any app. If you want to use MIDI, use MidiStroke (http://www.charlie-roberts.com/midiStroke/) to convert a note to command-control-R.

    Presets yes maybe one day.

    Cheers
